to Ride and Shine
Ride and Shine was founded in 1996 to provide a horseback riding
program for individuals with special needs. Ride and Shine is a
Premier Accredited Center for the North American Riding for the Handicapped
Association (NARHA) and is the only such program offered in El
Dorado County.
Our mission is to provide therapeutic intervention to
achieve increased balance, muscular control and attention skills,
while providing exercise and enjoyment of an activity that will
assist in the development of socialization skills and the
enhancement of self-esteem.
People who would like to work in
the riding ring with the riders need not be "horse people"
but it is good if they are "horse oriented". They should
like horses, show no fear and be willing to listen to the Ride and
Shine instructors when they go over the why's and wherefores of the
techniques used with the disabled. Even when people have been around
horses for years, there are new tricks to learn in the field of
